Contest Rules

Participation & Eligibility

Open to ALL Hartford residents grades 4-12, as well as non-Hartford residents attending Hartford schools

Essay Topics & Guidelines

"My Hartford Neighborhood…"

"If I were mayor of Hartford, I'd…"

Accepted submissions can be in the form of an Essay,Poem, or Art Piece. All entries must relate directly to one of the above topics and follow these guidelines:

Essays: Must be TYPED on standard 8.5 X 11" paper

Poetry: Must be TYPED on standard 8.5 X 11" paper

Visual Art: Must be on paper or canvas no larger than 18 X 24" ALL ARTWORK must be accompanied by a 100-250 word essay relating the work to the topic chosen

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE ENTRANT'S ORIGINAL WORK, NOT PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED

Submission

Each submission MUST INCLUDE:

The Student's name, age, grade, school, teacher's name, complete home address and contact phone number. Entries may be submitted electronically via the “submit” button on our website, www.hartfordcontest.com, or by mail.

Judging & Awards

All work will be evaluated based on content, creativity and originality. Entries in each category of Essays, Poetry and Art will be divided into 3 grade-based sub-categories: grades 4 - 6, 7 - 9, and 10 - 12.

There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards given in each category.

Award Ceremony

The Award Ceremony will be held on May 4, 2019 at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Ave., Hartford, CT.Ceremony is open to all entrants, not just winners.
